What is ACA / Obamacare?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) — sometimes called Obamacare — is the federal Marketplace where people under 65 can buy private health insurance, often at a heavily subsidized rate.

Plans are organized into Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers, each balancing monthly premium against deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. We help you pick the tier that fits how you actually use care.

Who qualifies

  • Individuals and families under 65 without employer coverage
  • Self-employed and 1099 workers
  • Anyone who recently lost employer coverage
  • Families with mixed-coverage household members

Subsidies & tax credits

Most South Florida households qualify for a Premium Tax Credit that lowers — sometimes eliminates — the monthly premium. The amount depends on household income, family size, and the second-lowest-cost Silver plan in your area.

We calculate your exact subsidy before quoting, so the price you see is the price you actually pay.

ACA questions, answered

Who ACA / Obamacare is for

Marketplace coverage is built for people who buy their own health insurance rather than getting it through an employer.

Individuals & families

If you don't have job-based coverage, a Marketplace plan can cover you and everyone in your household.

The self-employed & 1099 workers

Freelancers, contractors, and small-business owners can find their own coverage on the Marketplace.

Between jobs or losing coverage

If you're between jobs or losing other coverage, a Marketplace plan helps you stay insured without a gap.

Key enrollment dates

There are two ways to sign up — the yearly window, and a special window opened by a life change.

Open Enrollment (Nov 1 – Jan 15)

This is the yearly window to start a new plan or change the one you already have.

Special Enrollment

Outside that window, a qualifying life event — a move, a marriage, a new baby, or losing other coverage — can open a 60-day window to enroll.
